Short descriptionGothic keep established in 1348 by caeasr Karel IV. As a storage for imperial crown jewels and precious relics. Renaissance rebuilt by O. Avostallis da Sala. Strongly Pseudo-Gothic rebuilt by J. Mocker in the end of the 19th century.
Expositions1st TOU|R: includes two floors Caesar Palace historic interiors, keep Treasury and Jewels-room (i.e. Dvořenínská Hall, Knights Hall, Kings Bedroom, Audience Hall, Festive Hall, etc.) in Mariánská tower.
2nd TOUR: (for groups with a limited number of persons) includes Virgin Mary Church with sacristy and St. Kateřina Chapel, The Great Tower with a tour around staircase's wall paintings, lapidarium, picture gallery. Architect Josef Mocker's cabinet and a visit to unique Sv. Kříž (Holy Cross) Chapel.
Interesting detailThe Holy Cross Chapel is a world unique and special place with a multi-stratified ideological program, Master Theodoric's panel paintings, wall paintings, gemstone encrustations, golden vault.
ValuationOne of our most important monuments, as well as one of the most picturesque relics of the Medieval times in Czechia. Newly opened St. Cross Chapel, the most beautiful room in the whole castle, with crown jewels.

Access and localities
ArriveCar
The best access is highway D5, depart in Beroun to road 126 towards Srbsko and Karlštejn. Large paid parking by the detour to Karlštejn village. Free parking in front of the train station on the other Berounka bank.
Public transport
Karlštejn train station is on track 171. You must cross the bridge over Berounka river and then to village towards the keep, cca 1,5 km in total.

červenáThe red mark leads by Vonoklas keep (cca 7 kms) acca Mořinky (cca 3,5 kms), from the keep cpntinues to dub 7 bratří (The 7 Brothers Oak) (cca 1,5 km) and via Bubovické vodopády (falls) (cca 4 kms) to Sv. Jan pod Skálou (cca 8 kms).
žlutáThe yellow mark begins at Karlštejn train station (cca 1,5 kms far from the keep), crosses the red mark bellow the keep and then continues to Hlásná Třebáň (cca 2 kms) and to Zadní Třebáň (cca 4 kms).
