| Short description | Gothic keep established in 1356 by Karel IV. Served mostly as a defense to nearby gold mines, The Gold Trail leading from Bavorsko to Czechia and also to defend the terrestrial border. The keep is situated right on a mountain chine. It is a kings keep but it was mainly owned by so called collateral holders. The keep's owner also possessed supreme juridical and capital power in Prácheňský region. The 15th century had added so called outer fortifications to the northern wall and an advanced fort Pustý hrádek. This keep was never conquered. It was wasting away since the second part of the 16th century and in 1617 Kašperské hory town bought Kašperk from king Matyáš. |
| Expositions | In purkrabství expositions about history and keep's constructional development, interesting facts from the common as well as the special days in Lucemburk times, gold mining in the region, small exposition dedicated to some interesting destinies of several keep's burgraves and their successors - the castellans. Another part of the sightseeing tour is the keep's palace ruin and a climb to the Eastern Tower which offers a beautiful outlook to central Šumava and its surroundings. From 1st July 2005 the Western Tower should be opened, with a new sightseeing tour and an exposition about keep's constructional-historical development and Charels's IV. Young days. |
| Interesting detail | Kašperk is the highest-situated kings keep in Bohemia (886 metres above the sea level). On the Western Tower is a unique remain of roof made from atypical-shaped bricks from the 14th century. |
