Short descriptionOriginally a Gothic keep presumably from the 15th century. Gradually rebuilt into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. Awarded with the German Knights Order after 1620. Wasting away during Thirty Years war, reconstructed into nowadays face in the 18th century. Nazi governance headquarters during World War II. Court with arcades, english park around the castle.
ExpositionsTHE CASTLE - 26 castle halls and castle chapel with valuable Rococo wall paintings and with original mobiliar dated from the 18th through the 20th century, high art-historical and fine art quality, significant picture gallery, armory and library. Furthermore for example audience hall, dance hall, music lounge, coat of arms lounge, hunters lounge, oriental lounge, chapel etc.
MUSEUM A part of the castle used as a museum with espositions The Nature of the Bruntal Region and from september 2005 also Guilds, Crafts and Trades in the Bruntal Region.
Interesting detailThe point of many visits by the prominent people of the history (Polish king Zikmund I., Roman caesar and Czech king Rudolf II., his successor Matyáš, "winter" king Fridrich Falcký). The castle has an unusual triangle platform, which traced former town fortifications.
ValuationCastle's exteriors are a perfect example of Baroque architecture. There are a lot of valuable and beautifully furnitured rooms in the interiors. We can see rich ceiling paintimgs and stuccos, as well as first-rate mobiliar furnitured rooms.

Access and localities

The best access is road 11 from Rýmařov or Opava. Parking is possible close to the castle (paid), by the castle (limited number) or at the crossing of roads 11 and 45, before a football stadion (free).
