Short descriptionOriginally a Gothic fort of Buzic's clan from the 13th century. Rebuilt and extended by Zmrzliks from Svojšno in the 15th century. Jiří Lokšan from Lokšany rebulit the fort into a Renaissance castli in the middle of the 16th century. Castle Early Baroque chapel bulit in the 17th century when castle possessed by Přibík Jeníšek from Újezd. Another modofocations made in the 18th and 19th century by Krakovský family from Kolovraty (sgraffitos renovations, foundation of the castle park). Last owners of the castle were Palffys from Erdod up to 1945. To the district belongs also an english park of 20 ha.
ExpositionsCastle interiors with collections of Kolovrats and Palffys:
1st TOUR connects private rooms with the representative areas. You can see a lot of important portraits from clan galleries as well as stylish furniture, picturing the Kolovrat and Palffy times, and a large collection of african trophies (i.e. dining hall in Renaissance style, clans' galleries, african lounge, Baroque, Rococo and Empire halls). Castle chapel of Virgin Mary - Early Baroque chapel from 1625-1632.
2nd TOUR - dedicated to the castle collections - in the eldest, Gothic, part is centred the collection of cold and blaster guns, belonging to one of the most importnat on the central Czechia. It is a set of pole weapons of czech origins and Hanuš from Kolovraty's hunter weapons. A part of this tour is laso Lokšanská library and Banqueting hall.
3rd TOUR consists of all 1st Tour plus banquetting hall and Lokšanská library in Renaissance style - the oldest castle library in Czechia from 1558. CHAPEL Early Baroque chapek of Virgin Mary from 1625 - 1632.
THE LUDVIK KUBA GALLERY - southbohemian motives from 1895-1950. Run by MěKS.
Interesting detailArchduke Ferdinand and Filipína Welser (cousin of then owner's wife) were secretly wed here in 1557. Lokšanská library is the oldest library in our countries which has been preserved in its original form from 1558. A preserved jewish ghetto with synagogue in "Lokšany" town quarter, right next to the town's square. Jewish cemetery behind the town (towards Rožmitál pod Třeboni)
ValuationAn important historic locality, all of the object is open for public, possibility of an easy walk in the english park, relaxed gathering at the cafe close to a herbs garden.
