Short descriptionFormer Cistercian Monastery, established by Václav II. By the end of the 13th century. Set on fire and partially destroyed during Hussite Wars. Baroque rebuilt in the 18th century, modified into a chateau on century later. One part rebuilt into a brewery. It is a gallery today.
ExpositionsAreal with Baroque chateau buildings and former monastery buildings with church, chateau park with many art sculptures. Interior holds a permanent exposition of Asian Art from the collections of the National Gallery. Pieces from all Asia, from Turkey to China and Japan. The collection has been forming since 1952. It gathered over twelfe thousand art pieces of asian origin throughout the years so far.
BASEMENT - gallery of Japan fine art with a presentation of traditional Japan art techniques and craftworks, but mostly pottery, lacquer, weapons and armory or metal tableware. Examples of Buddhist cult and Japanese paintwork and graphic divided into two complexes - natural and figural motives.
1st FLOOR - compact collection of chinese art from the Middle Ages, to grave plastics and Chinese pottery. Section with Chinese Buddhist art with several sculpture examples, which are world unique.
2nd FLOOR - collections of art from India, South-eastern Asia and the Front East, i.e. the set of Tibetian sacred paintworks of an outstanding importance or examples from the rich carpets colection.
NATIONAL GALLERY ARCHIVE - Archive takes care of documents already from 1348. Among others, it contains documents that are significant to understand the history of modern art, i.e. documents illustrating the historical development of the National Gallery since its establishment in 1796. Special part is dedicted to the heritage of artists, theoretics and also collectors. Accessible only after a previous agreement.
Interesting detailSkulls of the last Premyslids - Václav II., Václav III. and Eliška Přemyslovna are rested in repositories in the church body.

Sightseeing tourSightseeing tour duration cca 2-4 hrs. Basement cloisters are closed for now as plastics from the 19th and 20th century are stored here to dry after they were withered in the flood in 2003.
