Short descriptionRuins of a Gothic castle established in the 13th century. Kings castle since 1336. Karel IV. Had a great liking for this castle and dwelled here often. Extensive modifications and enlargement completed during Václav IV. The castle suffered a fire in the middle of the 16th century, started wasting away then. Completely reconstructed from the 80s of the 20th century. Petty modifications also in the present.
ExpositionsCastle areal with two cylindrical towers, old palace torso and Václav IV. Palace. Fortification remains with a torso of St. Apolinář and St. Markéta Chapels. The main tower is also a lookout with a dungeon in the basement. Maquette of the castle in the 13th century.
Interesting detailUnique Gothic block-stoning in the parging of the main tower. Furnace torso in the "central" heated old palace.
ValuationThe ruins give, compared to nearby Točník castle, a nice imagination of castle architecture development. Older Žebrák is a clasic example of a fort-type castle, while younger Točník is more of a comfortable estate.
