| Short description | Extensive complex of castle palaces and church estates of complicated constructional and historical development. Slavonic castle site was located here already in the 9th century. First Premyslids (Bořivoj, Vratislav I., Václav) established here several church estates. The Castle went through a large rebuilding in the 12th century in the Romanic style and in the Gothic style during Charles IV. Rudolf II. Promoted the Castle into an important cultural centre and Marie Teresie performed even more redevelopments. It lost its importance then but gained it again in 1918 when it was reonstructed and became the residence to the Czechoslovakian presidents. Proclaimed a national heritage in 1945. |

| Arrive | Car The best access is from Patočkova street towards Pohořelec. Free parkings around Pohořelec and Loretánské square. Public transport There are several accesseses. Metro A, or tram 12, 18, 22 to Malostranská station and then follow "Old Castle Stairs", or tram 12, 22 to Malostranské náměstí station and then through Nerudova street, or tram 22 to "Pražský hrad" station and "U Prašného mostu" street will lead you to the Castle. |
