| Short description | The cathedral is located on the place of the former Povýšení St. Kříže Church from the middle of the 13th century, destroyed during the great fire in 1517. New God's tabernacle in the Gothic style was built during 1517-37 - it was most likely based on the project by the royal architect Benedikt (Beneš) Rejt from Píst and he also participated in the directing. Though several investigators claim it was constructor Pavel from Pardubice's work. The characteristic feature of the lounský cathedral is its slender tent roofs covered in slate (similar to the one in St. Barbora Cathedral in Kutná Hora - by Benedikt Rejt) by lounský carpented Master Eliáš. |
