Short descriptionThe keep was established probably in the middle of the 13th century on a hump on river Jizera right bank. Archbishop Jan IV. From Dražice had it rebuilt and Gothic extended with french features after 1300. Twice conquered in 1424 and 1448 but was reconstructed each time. Abandoned in the 16th century and has been wasting away ever since.
ExpositionsKeep areal with preserved fortification walls, remains of new palace with broad window holes, remains of chapel with Gothic tracery window torsos. The building of former grange, adjoint to western fortification wall. Distinctive high dikes in front of the chapel.
Interesting detailAn interesting example of Early Gothic architecture with evident influece from French Gothic (window remains with rosettes).
ValuationNot overly large ruins but history lovers will be happy to see the Gothic rosettes in former chapel windows. Romantic people will also enjoy the beautiful view from the ruins and also its silhouette towering on the hill above village.

Locations15 kms South from Mladá Boleslav. The ruin is nested on a slight peak over same called village on the right bank of river Jizera. Local dominant visible from far afar.
Access and localities
ArriveCar
The best access is highway 10 from Prague to Liberec. Depart to Benátky nad Jizerou or Horky nad Jizerou. Dražice are on road 610 between these two towns. Parking is possible in the village, close to a former restaurant under the ruins or you can go around the ruins and park right in front of them.
Public transport
The closest train station is Zdětín on track 70 between Neratovice and Mladá Boleslav. The ruins are about 5 kms far.
