Short descriptionTěšín princes built this keep in the 14th century to defend state borders and trade routs. Fortifications had been strengthened with additional wall during Hussite wars. Rebuilt into a representative castle by Pernštejns and Bruntálský family from Vrbno in the 16th and 17th century. Jiří from Oppersdorf built the front castle wing and made a sightseeing gloriet from one tower's fortifications in the middle of the 17th century. When possessed by his son František Eusebius from Oppersdorf, the castle suffered a fire, along with all Frýdek town. Pražma family continued in castle renovations after František Eusebius, they built the main staircase, for example. The castle belonged to Habsburks in the 19th century, who made a few historicist touch ups. The castle was confiscated after 1918 and then used by State Forests, original castle mobiliar destroyed in the 50s. Museum has moved to the castle in the 60s and is taking care of it to this day.
