Short descriptionThe original keep was built in 11th century during prince Břetislav's times to protect the southern Bohemian borders, rebuilt and extended in early Gothic style in the 13th century. Another rebuilding took place at the end of the 15th century. Today's face comes from the 19th century when the keep's complex was chnaged in New Gothic style. Garden - ZOO Bítov (mostly european fauna) is in the district.
ExpositionsTHE PALACE - interiors furnished with mobiliar mostly from the 19th century, in the first floor salla terrena connected with parkan§s garden, atypic lights collection, in the second floor - classic piano nobile, third floor - permanent zoological collection (the biggeste collection of stuffed dogs in Europe). Historic music and fencing inserted into the sightseeing tour in the summer months.
ARMORY - in 2003 opened again after 33 years - selected exposition of the most important exhibits of the famous Bítov's armory. Armory is located in the original rooms, where it was stored since the 18th century, proved with photographs from year 1880. The core of the expositins are weapons gathered especially in the time when the catle was owned by Jankovsky from Vlašim's clan (1612-1736). Next to the works of famous gunsmiths from the end of the 16th century it introduces also an outstanding artificer gunmaker works from the 17th century.
The WATER WORLD - WRAITHS - exposition of the wraiths of this keep. THE CHAPEL castle's chapel of Virgin Mary (look-in for free).
ZOO the keep's garden continues the fromer ZOO garden, ponny rides for children. Sightseeing tour is let to a private company Z. Nikolai.
Interesting detailRemains of edge tower form the beginning of the 13th century illustrate the eldest example of this tower type in our country. Spacious forest park with a lot of estates (salets) which were made for a rest and trips of the lordships in the Romantism time.
ValuationThe largest collection of stuffed animals in Europe - 51 pieces. One of the most valuable armories in the Czech Republic, up to 1.100 weapons from the 14th - 19th century, ZOO of baron Jiří Haas - authentic ZOO garden of the last private owner of the keep
